SEVP Notification Explained

July 8, 2020
As many of you are aware, SEVP released a notification on July 6, 2020, addressing recent changes within the F-1 Regulation. The notification indicates that temporary exemptions to the F-1 Regulation, which were applicable in Spring of 2020, will not be extended to the Fall 2020 semester. The temporary exemption stated that nonimmigrant students were permitted to take online courses during Spring 2020 semester, due to the unusual circumstances brought about by COVID-19.
Indiana Tech will proceed as normal with on campus classes in the Fall 2020 semester. As such, this SEVP notification will not effect international students at Indiana Tech. Standard F-1 Regulation will apply to all students studying on an F-1 visa, including the requirements for pursuing a full course of study at all times. SEVP defines a full course of study as 12 credit hours per semester (undergraduate), and 9 credits per semester (graduate). F-1 nonimmigrant students are eligible to take one online course per semester.
