Fort Wayne

Indiana Tech has been part of the Fort Wayne community since we opened in 1930. Our campus is located within a ten minute walk of the Downtown area. We encourage all students to explore what this amazing city has to offer.

History

Fort Wayne was first founded by European settlers in October of 1794. The city was a strategic military hub since it was nestled in the centers of the three rivers (St. Mary’s, St. Joseph’s, and Maumee). It was named after the military leader General “Mad” Anthony Wayne, which makes it a one of a kind city name!

Historically, Fort Wayne has been a hub of industry and due to this, many immigrants have called Fort Wayne home.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that the land now home to Fort Wayne was originally founded by various Native American tribes. We recognize the Potawatomi, Miami, Delaware, and Eel River Indians who were settled here during the 1809 Treaty of Fort Wayne (SmithsonianMag). We recognize the Peoria, Kaskaskia, Kickapoo (Native-Land) as well as any others who had settled this land before.
